Dental Care

DENTAL CARE

A healthy mouth and a pleasant smile is an important part of one's general health.  Proper dental care can help the individual's teeth for a life time.

A FEW TIPS FOR HEALTHY GUMS & TEETH

  • Regular brushing of Teeth :   Every morning and night brushing of teeth is must.   Night brushing is more important than day time brushing.  Use good tooth paste and tooth brush (trimmed bristles on a small head) that reaches on every corner of mouth.  Brush in the correct way for at least 3 to 5 minutes.  Do not rush while brushing.  Change the brush when bristes become irregular, as they damage the gums.

  • Each foods having Vitamins & Minerals i.e. milk, eggs, apples, bananas, carrots, corn, citrus fruits and leafy green vegetables.  Eat sweets but do not let sweets stick to the teeth.  Prevent this by brushing or rinsing your mouth after consumption.

  • Massage your Gums: Using a gum paint with finger pressure. Make a regular habit, which will keep your gum healthy. Mouth wash is an antiseptic and anti plague agent that can be used to treat as well as prevent gum problems.

GUM PROBLEMS AND ITS TREATMENT:

These are bad smell from the mouth, bleeding gums, pus discharge from the gums, red spongy and swollen gums, gums starting to their original place of attachment to the tooth, leading to sensation to cold, hot, sweet , sour etc.

These gum problem are mainly due to the presence of tartar on the teeth. Whatever we eat, sticks to the topmost hard layer of the teeth called the enamel and forms a thin, sticky transparent layer called dental plaque. If you do not brush regularly, many such layers are deposited on one another forming a hard layer called tartar or dental calculus.

Tartar is yellow, brown or black in colour and is so hard that it cannot be removed with a  toothbrush.

When this tartar comes between the teeth and gum, gum problem starts due to the continuous presence of bacteria in the form of in the form of plaque on this surface. The gum thus becomes swollen red and spongy. They leave their original place of attachement to the teeth and start bleeding. This is also one of the reason of bad breath. The patient should not delay for the treatment of gum problems and a dentist is to be approached.
