Compassionate Appointment-in lieu of Government Servant







Scheme of Compassionate Appointment
Relative Merit Points and Revised Procedure for Selection

1. The object of the Scheme is to grant appointment on compassionate grounds to dependent family member of a Government servant dying in harness or who is retired on medical grounds, thereby leaving his family in penury and without any means of livelihood, to relieve the family of the Government servant concerned from financial destitution and to help it get over the emergency. Compassionate appointments can be made upto a maximum of 5% of vacancies falling under direct recruitment quota in any Group C or D post.

2. DOP&T have prescribed a formal procedure and time limit to be adopted for compassionate appointment.For list of Documents required for processing Compassionate Appointment Cases click here.

3. While considering compassionate appointment, merit of the cases are to be decided by allotting weightage points based on a 100 point scale attributed to various parameters for a comparatively balanced and objective assessment as indicated below-

3. The Committee (Board of Officers) for considering a request for appointment on compassionate grounds should take into account the position regarding availability of vacancy for such appointment and it should recommend appointment on compassionate grounds only in a really deserving case and only if vacancy meant for appointment on compassionate grounds will be available within a year, that too within the ceiling of 5% meant for the purpose.
