Sankalp Annual Activity Report
JUN 2009 – APRIL 2010
Sankalp(V) reopened after Summer Vacations on the 22nd of June 09. Many of our
staff including the Principal submitted resignations due to transfers. New
Principal, 04 staff and 01 Occupational Therapist have been appointed in this
academic year. There have been 25 children on regular roll and 12 children on
Home Management this year.
Visits: Mrs. Nani Singh, President NWWA (ER) visited the school and interacted
with the children. Mrs. Uma Pasricha, former President NWWA (ER) also visited
the school and spent time with the staff and children. Principal, a Spcial
Educator, one parent with a hearing impaired child, visited Omkara School for
the deaf and mute in February 2010. Children visited INS Jalashwa on Children’s
Day and also visited INS Dega and saw the aircrafts such as helicopters, planes,
and Sagar Pawans at close quarters. They also interacted with the pilots.
Activities: Yoga, drill, sport activities, Art activities, etc resumed on the
days concerned. Quarterly Medical check up was conducted once a term by a team
of doctors from INS Virbahu. Rakhis were made by children and sent to Chief of
Naval Staff, FOC-in-C, various units and other Sankalps. Students participated
in the Special Olympics in the month of September 09. Students and parents were
treated to a movie once a term at Samudrika. The teachers were invited for lunch
by NWWA at Leherika where there was a short and sweet entertainment programme as
well as games with lots of gifts. Students made Diyas and floating candles
during Dushera and Diwali for sale. Sankalp set up a stall during Navy Mela with
lots of new items for sale such as key chains, earrings, photo frames, magazine
holders, diaries, pen holders, etc along with greeting cards, gift bags, etc.
Festivals Celebrated:
• Raksha Bandhan was celebrated with girls applying “tilak”, performing “Aarti
and tying Rakhis to the boys. Six children from NCS Primary (3 boys and 3 girls)
were invited to participate in the celebrations.
• Independence Day: Independence Day was celebrated with lots of pomp and gaiety
by the students with the NWWA committee members, parents and our chief guest was
Surg RAdm Manisha JaiPrakash. Students of Balwadi joined us in the celebrations.
They came dressed as freedom fighters for a fancy dress show.
• Janamastami Celebrations: Lord Krishna’s birth was celebrated by performing
the “Jhoola ceremony” and “Dahi Handi“.
• Ganesh Chaturthi: The elephant lord was worshipped with reverence by the
children and sweets were distributed.
• Onam: Children from the secondary and the pre-vocational group made a
“Poohkolam” to mark the Onam festival on the 2nd September 09.
• Dussera Celebrations: On the 23rd of September 09 children performed the Puja
of Goddess Durga. Durga Puja committee members from 104 Area came and
participated in the puja celebrations and distributed gifts. Children did
“Dandiya” and danced enthusiastically.
• Diwali celebrations: Children came in their party clothes and celebrated Diwali by eating sweets and bursting crackers on the 16th of October 09.
• Christmas was celebrated with a volunteer choir group from Naval Park singing
carols for children and a teacher dressed as Santa Clause giving away the gifts.
• Colourful Holi was celebrated amongst children on 26th February 2010.
Annual Events:
• 3rd GBM was presided over by Mrs. Nani Singh, Presisdent NWWA (ER) and many
issues pertaining to the welfare of the children were discussed between parents,
management and panel of concerned officers.
• On World Disability Day the school went on a Picnic to VUDA Children’s Park
where they enjoyed boat ride and horse rides.
• Annual Sports Day was celebrated as Integrated Sports Day with team games
organized with children from NCS also participating along with Sankalp children.
Mrs. Nani Singh, Presisdent NWWA (ER) graced the occasion as our Chief Guest.
• 20th Anniversary Celebrations of Sankalp took place at Samudrika on the 29th
Jan, 2010. VAdm. Anup Singh was the Chief Guest and he was impressed by the show
put up by the children of Sankalp. He donated a sum of Rs. 1, 00, 000/ to the
school.
Workshops: Workshop on “Early Interention and Rehabilitation” was conducted on
the 22 March 10 by Mrs. Puja Verma and Dr. Smita Dharmemere. It was attended by
the parents of Sankalp, teachers, teachers from Little Angels, NCS, KVs in
Nausena Bagh. It was well appreciated by one and all.
Staff Picnic: All the teachers went on a NWWA sponsored picnic on the 26th of
February 2010. It was for the first time in the history of Sankalp (V) that
staff went on an independent picnic to Sai Priya Resorts, Rushikonda. It was
thoroughly enjoyed by all the teachers.
