MODALITIES COURSES FOR OFFICERS AND SAILORS


Proposal to facilitate seamless induction of ex Naval personnel into near coastal segment of merchant navy accepted by GOI/DG shipping. MS Notices 7/2005 and 8/2006 also refers.

2. Modalities for executive officers without COS as under

(a) Modified five month course at NAMAC
(b) Mandatory six month sea time on coastal trading ships for offices holding Temp CDC issued by DG shipping.
(c) Oral assessment on completion of sea time for award of certificate of
Competency

 3. Modalities for technical officers under foreign going unlimited scheme as under

(a) Technical officers with COS to undergo engineering management level Courses at LBS CAMSAR followed by assessment to join as chief engineer.
(b) Technical officers without COS to undergo mandatory courses at LBS CAMSAR followed by assessment to join as fourth engineer.

 4. Modalities for sailors as under

(a) Artificers and Mechanicians with watch keeping certificate join as fourth engineer on completion of MEO course at institute of marine engineers Mumbai followed by mandatory STCW-95 courses.
(b) Seaman and communication sailors join as navigation watch keeping officers onboard trading ships post completion of specified NWKO courses at LBS CAMSAR followed by six month mandatory sea time on trading ships.
(c) DG shipping circular on modified modalities for induction of artificers Mechanicians and MEs under finalisation.

5. Mandatory sea time will be arranged by IHQ/MOD(Navy) / DESA in consultation with DG shipping and SCI.
