MARITIME FOUNDATION,
MERCHANT NAVAL TRAINING
INSTITUTE, CHENNAI
1. The Institute is DG Shipping, Govt. of India Approved institute located in Tamil Nadu with high turn over of trainees in Engg. & Deck Streams.
2. A total of 95 B.E. graduate Marine Engineers have qualified and many of the early batches are sailing on the high seas in foreign going ships.
3. The institution has also trained 127 deck cadets to date. Many of them have attained the rank of 2nd officers in merchant navy and quite a few of them are preparing for chief officer captains examination.
4. Over 372 ratings have been trained in this institution. Their placements are coordinated by the Training Institutes Central City Office in Nungambakkam (Tele: 28237271 Fax: 28237271). Many have been helped to get contracts in foreign ships, offshore vessels, ocean tugs, and also in port services as seamen.
5. The Maritime foundation is a fully residential training establishment giving full training and gives the trainees - Director General of Shipping approved certifications, making the trainees fully eligible to join sea services.

7. The trainees are also taught in computer awareness and utilization to help them function better in the present high tech shipping service.
8. The institute to-date has conducted over 609 Standards of Safety Training and Certification for watch keepers at sea (STCW) courses;these are mandatory safety courses all seamen must undergo to sail on ships at sea.
9. The establishment has the best realistic training aids to make a trainee an effective sea farer, worthy of our nation and they are all much in demand by foreign companies.

Out of 200 short listed Indian candidates for deck officers from all the training institutions in India by a foreign shipping company like WALLEMS, six were selected after Intelligent & Technical Exams & Interviews. Of these six, two were from our institution that is the high standard we maintain.
11. Two of our Graduate Engineers Research Papers were chosen by the Institute of Marine Engineers as the best project papers and are being awarded prizes during the Flag Day celebrations on 05 Apr 05.
12. This institute has in Chennai city, the Fire Prevention & Fire fighting, Mock up Facility and give training to many other outside institutes cadets some even from neighbouring states like Andhra & Kerala to use this facility.
